The last 50 years of globalization have helped propel Dubai from a small fishing village to a international trading hub. World renown brands have emerged from the desert, brands such as Emirates Airlines, Godolphin Racing and DP World. However, the recent slowdown in East and West trade has meant that this Middle Eastern ‘bridge’ has had to adjust it’s focus towards more regional trade.
Expo 2020, a 6 month event to be held in Dubai, will provide a ‘shot in the arm’ for both Dubai and it’s regional trading partners such as China, India and Saudi Arabia to reset the parameters for trade. New trade routes and flows are likely to emerge over the coming decade between Dubai and emerging economies and Expo 2020 will be a key catalyst to make this happen.
